LIP FILLER VS LIP PLUMPERS: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Big lips are the vibe right now, that’s just a fact. Everyone’s constantly chasing that perfect pout that we see on Instagram or the pages of magazines. But what if you weren’t naturally blessed in the lip department? What are your options? 🙀

As larger, plumper lips have become more popular (think Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Charlotte Crosby - you get the idea) demand has soared for treatments like lip filler and augmentation. At the same time, more natural solutions have started to pop up, with several make-up brands bringing out lip products that claim to get you that ‘lip filler look’ naturally.

Which route is the right one for you? Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of both to see how you’d be best to get the lip look of your dreams. 💭

WHAT ARE LIP FILLERS? 💉

Lip fillers are a cosmetic procedure that provides medium to long-term plumping for your lips. Basically, a type of dermal filler (containing hyaluronic acid, to be precise 🤓)  is injected into your lips to make them appear fuller. The more filler you have injected, the bigger your results will be.

But did you know: lip injections aren’t permanent. It actually only lasts around 6 - 18 months, but can vary from person to person. If you decide you don’t like the look of your lips after filler, and want to get rid sooner, you can have it dissolved (but a little birdy told us this hurts more than getting the filler in the first place! 🥲).

For some people, lip filler is their procedure of choice if they notice a loss of volume in their lips due to age. But filler can’t freeze time - it’s more like a pause button. It won’t put a stop to the ageing process - but it might delay the need for more invasive treatments like surgical lip augmentation.

WHAT ARE LIP PLUMPERS? 💋

Lip plumpers are like magic wands for instant plumpness without the drama. Biggest plus? No needles. There are lots of different lip plumpers out there, which will have a different impact on your lip size and the longevity of their impact.

Time for a bit of a science lesson 🧪.

Instant lip plumpers work by using a vasodilator to increase blood flow to your lips, and ingredients that then act as an irritant to bring about that perfect plump. It’s these ingredients that bring about that tingling sensation a lot of people associate with using a lip plumper.

Our viral Volumising Lip Plumper is famous for her tingle. She uses a chilli pepper extract called capsaicin - which is why it comes with that warming sensation as your lips start to plump. On the other hand, our Volumising Lip Oil uses peppermint leaf oil, ginger root oil and chilli fruit extract, meaning there’s next to no tingle with maximum results. Both of these have a high-impact instantly and tend to create results that last up to four hours depending on your genetic makeup.

Long-term lip plumpers are also available to help improve the size and profile of your lips over time. Our Hyaluronic Lip Plumper and our Collagen Lip Plumper both provide long-term plumping results that peak after 30 days of continuous use.

LIP FILLERS VS LIP PLUMPERS

If you’re looking for a longer-term solution to get bigger lips, then maybe lip filler is for you 🤷‍♀️. If you want BIG lips, it also just might not be possible to get that look without undergoing some cosmetic work.

However, there are a lot of cons that many people don’t consider before they get filler in their lips. It isn’t a permanent fix, meaning you will have to get them topped up every 6 to 12 months depending on how quickly your body breaks it down. At a few hundred pounds per time, your bank account might not be happy.

Also, lip filler can be painful. You are, after all, injecting stuff into your face with a needle. A cosmetic provider might provide a type of numbing agent during your procedure, but they’ll still be tender and swollen for a couple of days.

Lip plumpers bring with them less stress. You get full control over your look. Want them bigger? Add a few more layers. if you end up not liking the ‘lip filler look’, all you have to do is wait for the impact to wear off and you’re back to normal. Not to mention, they’re much cheaper in the long run!

When trying to decide between lip filler or using lip plumpers, it really is a personal choice. Lip plumpers are a natural way to get plumper, fuller lips either in the short or long term - so they should definitely be a contender when you’re weighing up your options!
